Obazda
Obazda is a traditional Bavarian cheese spread made from Camembert which is eated at Brotzeit with pretzels. (Source: https://www.gaumenfreundin.de/obazda/)

Ingredients
- 500g Camembert (or 250g Camembert and 250g Limburger for traditional variation)
- 100g butter, at room temperature
- 1 small onion
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds (Kümmel)
- 2 teaspoons sweet paprika powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Wheat beer (Weißbier), for mixing
- Chopped chives and red onion rings, for garnish (optional)
Steps
- Coarsely chop the Camembert and place in a large bowl. Add the soft butter and mash both together with a fork until combined
- Finely chop the onion and fold it into the cheese mixture.
- Season the dip with caraway seeds, paprika powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix well to combine.
- Add a splash of wheat beer and stir until the Obazda becomes nice and creamy.
- Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with chopped chives and red onion rings.
Notes
- Serve with pretzels, bread, or vegetables.
- You can replace beer with sparking water for a non-alcoholic version.
